Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for portions of northern California and southwest Oregon, effective from 5:00 p.m. PDT on Saturday until 11:00 p.m. PDT on Sunday. The advisory warns of potential flooding due to heavy rainfall and snowmelt, which could lead to rising water levels in streams, creeks, and rivers, as well as urban flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage.
Affected Areas
The Flood Watch covers:
• Northern California – Western Siskiyou County
• Southwest Oregon – Central Douglas County, Curry County Coast, Eastern Curry County and Josephine County, Eastern Douglas County Foothills, Jackson County, and South Central Oregon Coast
Forecast and Potential Impacts
The NWS reports that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall and snowmelt could cause rivers, creeks, and streams to exceed their banks. Flooding may affect low-lying areas and urban locations with poor drainage. Roads and transportation infrastructure could be impacted, with the possibility of road closures and hazardous travel conditions.
Precautionary Measures
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential evacuations if conditions worsen. The NWS recommends securing outdoor property, clearing drainage systems, and avoiding travel through flooded areas. Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid driving through water-covered roads.
Further updates and possible flood warnings will be issued as conditions develop.
