Medford, Oregon- A suspect on transitional leave from prison is in custody after attempting to evade Medford Police and crashing his vehicle late last night.
Around midnight, a Medford Police Department (MPD) officer saw a vehicle traveling in the continuous left-turn lane on Crater Lake Avenue. The driver stopped at a green light and failed to maintain the lane. The officer initiated a traffic stop at Crater Lake Avenue and Grand Avenue and contacted the driver, who showed signs of intoxication.
While speaking with the officer, the suspect suddenly fled. Officers pursued the vehicle eastbound on East McAndrews Road and northbound on Brookdale Avenue. The driver ran a stop sign at Lone Pine Road and struck landscaping boulders, causing the vehicle to flip and land upside down in a yard.
The suspect tried to flee on foot but was quickly detained while crawling from the wreckage. He sustained minor injuries. No other occupants were in the vehicle.
The driver was taken to Providence Hospital for a court-ordered blood draw and medical evaluation before being booked into the Jackson County Jail on multiple charges. Four hours after the initial stop, his blood alcohol content (BAC) measured .14%.
