About Us

Medford Alert started in 2011 with a single follower, and as a small independent twitter blog that highlighted local development news. Since then, our Twitter/X footprint has grown to be the second largest of all local news and media sites, including all local traditional legacy news companies. We have expanded over the past decade to become a full-fledged independent media organization. Over the years, we have added Instagram, and Facebook sites to better connect with our readers directly. In early 2020, we went live with MedfordAlert.com and have seen readership quickly grow to tens of thousands per month.

We pride ourselves on our breaking news coverage, along with the simple fact that we do not add any political or personal spin to any of our stories or coverages. Simply put, we provide the context, the data, and the facts in our reporting; the rest is up to the reader.

We are locally founded and operated, so that means we are 100% committed to our local community. After the life changing Almeda Fire in 2020, Medford Alert immediately started a non—stop fundraiser for those that were affected by the tragic event. We raised over $35,000 for a local non-profit to help feed and support fire victims right here in the Medford area. During the height of COVID lockdowns, we saw a need and offered free advertising to highlight and help struggling local restaurants in our #RogueForward series. Our connection to the community runs deep and our love for the valley is unwavering.

In September of 2025, Medford Alert LLC was closed and Medford Alert News, a 501(c)(3) non-profit community news organization, was launched. We feel this better suites the mission we started in 2011 and will allow us to continue our journalism well into the future.

Our coverage of events and breaking news stories have been featured locally, statewide, nationally, and across the globe. Whether we are covering a fire, crash, building project, or just highlighting a beautiful local sunset, we are committed to serving our community. From the Medford metro, to the Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon, and beyond… we are proud to be here #ForTheValley.

Mission Statement

Medford Alert News was founded with one clear purpose: to provide accurate, timely, and agenda-free news that reflects the voices and needs of our community. From the very beginning, our newsroom has been built on the belief that truly local news must be created by the people who live here, understand our challenges, and share in our successes.

For more than a decade, we have been deeply engaged in our region through coverage that is both independent and community-driven. In addition to reporting, we have supported and organized community events, local fundraisers, and grassroots efforts that bring people together across Medford, the Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon, Northern California, and beyond. Our commitment has always been to serve as both a reliable source of information and a trusted partner in civic life.

In 2025, Medford Alert News transitioned into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This important step ensured that our mission remains squarely focused on public service rather than profit. By adopting this nonprofit model, we continue to expand our ability to cover the stories that matter most, protect our editorial independence, and build stronger connections with the communities we serve.

Today, Medford Alert News stands as one of the few truly local and independent newsrooms dedicated to this region. Annual direct views across our platforms now top 25 million, a reflection of the vital need our community has for trusted, agenda-free reporting. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, fair, and accessible coverage on the issues, events, and stories that directly affect the lives of our readers. We are committed to preserving the principles of journalistic integrity, amplifying community voices, and ensuring that our coverage remains free from outside influence or partisan agendas. We are governed by a locally based Board of Directors that have each been hand picked for their diverse career fields and life experiences.

Through collaboration, transparency, and community support, Medford Alert News will continue to shine a light on local issues, celebrate regional achievements, and hold institutions accountable. Our dedication is to you—the residents of Medford, the Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon, Northern California, and Oregon as a whole. Together, we strive to keep our communities informed, connected, and empowered with news that truly belongs to the people.

Editorial Independence Policy

1. Editorial Authority

Medford Alert News maintains full and independent authority over all editorial content. Decisions regarding story selection, reporting, and publication are made solely by our newsroom staff in alignment with our mission to provide accurate, agenda-free, and community-focused journalism. Neither the Board of Directors, donors, sponsors, nor business partners may direct or influence our editorial coverage.

2. Separation of News and Revenue

We uphold a strict firewall between sources of revenue and the newsroom. Editorial decisions are never influenced by funding considerations.

3. Acceptance of Financial Support

Medford Alert News accepts financial contributions from individuals, foundations, sponsors, and businesses to support our nonprofit mission. These funds may range from small individual donations to large foundation grants or sponsorships.

All financial support is treated as unrestricted general support unless explicitly designated for community programs approved in advance by Medford Alert News leadership. Contributions, regardless of size or source, do not grant any right to influence editorial decisions, story selection, or the framing of coverage.

4. No Endorsements

Acceptance of financial support does not constitute an endorsement—explicit or implied—of any donor’s, sponsor’s, or partner’s products, services, political activities, or viewpoints. Coverage decisions are made independently of donor relationships or financial considerations.

5. Transparency and Accountability

To ensure public trust, Medford Alert News commits to transparency regarding its funding sources. Major individual donations of over $5000, large grants of over $5000, or significant sponsorships over $5000 may be publicly disclosed in annual reports or on our website. We are accountable first and foremost to our readers and community, not to financial contributors.

6. Commitment to the Public Interest

By safeguarding our editorial independence, Medford Alert News ensures that our journalism remains free from outside influence and rooted in the public interest. Our responsibility is to the people of Medford, the Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon, Northern California, and Oregon as a whole.
