MEDFORD, Ore. (Aug. 31, 2026) — A federal grand jury in Medford has indicted a 32-year-old Medford man on charges alleging he illegally possessed firearms and homemade silencers and had an unregistered destructive device, federal prosecutors said Monday.
Michael Scott Beugli appeared in federal court Monday to be arraigned on a superseding indictment and seek release from custody. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending trial.
According to court documents, a witness reported seeing Beugli throwing firearms from his Medford residence on Feb. 24, 2026. Beugli is a convicted felon and is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms.
Beugli allegedly fled the residence. Law enforcement officers subsequently located nine firearms and additional homemade silencers at the home, according to prosecutors.
About a month later, Beugli allegedly sent threatening messages to the witness.
On March 25, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded after an explosive device detonated inside a vehicle at the witness’s residence, prosecutors said. Beugli was later located at a nearby home where authorities allegedly found devices similar to the one that detonated, along with explosive materials.
Federal prosecutors allege Beugli had not registered the silencers or destructive devices with the ATF as required by federal law.
Beugli initially appeared in federal court Aug. 17 before a U.S. magistrate judge. He was arraigned at that time on a single count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending a jury trial scheduled to begin Sept. 28.
If convicted, Beugli faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, prosecutors said.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the case.
The ATF is investigating in coordination with the Medford Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police Department and Oregon State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara T. Shaw is prosecuting the case.
The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Justice Department initiative that coordinates federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement and prosecutors in efforts to combat violent crime. The program emphasizes rapid federal responses, partnerships among law enforcement agencies and prosecution of serious offenses as part of efforts to deter violent crime.
An indictment is an accusation of a crime. Beugli is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
