GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Aug. 31, 2026) — Two Grants Pass men were arrested Monday after police reviewed additional video evidence from a physical altercation that occurred during a protest last week near the Anne Basker Auditorium, authorities said.
Grants Pass police officers were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. Aug. 26 to a report of a physical disturbance in the street in the 600 block of Sixth Street. Officers determined that two adult men had been involved in an altercation, but statements from the men and witnesses were inconsistent, according to police.
A citizen-recorded video showing part of the incident was later circulated online and reviewed by investigators. Police said they believed additional video could provide a more complete account of what happened, so no arrests were made that day while officers continued investigating.
After obtaining and reviewing additional video footage, officers said they were able to assess the entire altercation and establish probable cause to arrest both men on charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.
David T. Haury, 39, of Grants Pass, and Edgar M. Pelfrey, 62, of Grants Pass, were arrested and lodged Monday at the Josephine County Jail.
Police said the incident occurred during a protest involving people with opposing viewpoints, creating what authorities described as a highly charged atmosphere.
The Grants Pass Police Department thanked the community for its patience while officers gathered available evidence and worked to determine what occurred before making arrests.
No additional information will be released at this time, police said.
A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
