KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (Aug. 31, 2026) — A 46-year-old man has been arrested on murder and weapons charges following the fatal shooting of a 54-year-old man in Klamath Falls, authorities said.
Officers with the Klamath Falls Police Department were dispatched at about 10:56 p.m. Aug. 27 to the 1900 block of Wantland Avenue after receiving a report that a man had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found 54-year-old Saul Eduardo Estrada suffering from life-threatening injuries. Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Klamath County Major Crime Team was activated to investigate the shooting. The investigation resulted in multiple search warrants being served and the arrest of 46-year-old Joseph Kerekes.
Kerekes was booked into the Klamath County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
The Klamath County Major Crime Team includes the Klamath Falls Police Department, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Klamath County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting or described a possible relationship between Kerekes and Estrada.

A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
