Multiple Metro Agencies Respond to Eagle Point Standoff

Earlier today, around 2:06 pm, officers from the Eagle Point Police Department were called to the 400 block of Merlee Circle in response to a report of a male subject violating a restraining order. The individual, identified as Jacob Johnson, was found inside the residence armed with a knife. When officers arrived at the scene, Johnson remained uncooperative, refusing to answer the door and barricading himself inside.

In their efforts to defuse the situation, officers requested assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, highlighting the need for additional resources. It was during this tense standoff that officers discovered a 16-year-old juvenile also inside the house, safely secured in the bathroom. While officers worked diligently to coax Johnson out and ensure the juvenile’s safety, communication remained challenging.

Johnson refused to comply, making threats to harm officers using weapons and a dog. With an increased law enforcement presence, including deputies and supervisors from the Sheriff’s Office, the safety of nearby residents was prioritized, and the area around the house was secured. Negotiations persisted, but Johnson continued to resist cooperation despite numerous attempts to resolve the situation peacefully.

As a last resort, deputies tried to enter the residence by unlocking the door. However, it remained unclear whether Johnson was holding the lock or had damaged it. Ultimately, deputies were compelled to breach the door and enter the premises. Johnson was taken into custody without any further incident.

Following his arrest, Jacob Johnson was transported and lodged at the Jackson County Jail, facing the following charges: Restraining Order Violation, Probation Violation, Burglary in the First Degree, Trespass in the First Degree, Interfering with a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest. The possibility of additional charges arising from the investigation is not ruled out.

The Eagle Point Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the peaceful resolution of the incident. They also extended appreciation to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for their support in terms of manpower, resources, and tools necessary to prevent further escalation.

After securing Johnson, he received a medical evaluation by medics from Mercy Flights Ambulance service and Jackson County Fire District 3 to ensure his well-being.
