On Friday, November 3, 2023, at 1:23 p.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy-101, near milepost 257, in Coos County.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F-150, driven by a 17-year-old female, was heading northbound when the young driver reportedly dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer into the southbound lanes. The Ford collided head-on with a southbound Toyota Camry, operated by Carole Ann Voliva, a 77-year-old resident of Bandon.
The operator of the Toyota, Carole Ann Voliva, lost her life in the devastating collision.
The young driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident.
The incident resulted in a three-hour disruption along the highway as authorities conducted their on-scene investigation.
Oregon State Police received assistance from several local agencies, including Bandon Fire, Bandon Police Department, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, North Bend Police Department, Coos Bay Police Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
