MEDFORD, Ore. (Jun. 23, 2026) — The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office was evacuated Tuesday after a suspicious item was discovered on the exterior of the building, prompting a law enforcement response and temporary street closures in downtown Medford.
According to the Medford Police Department, officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of the item. Authorities said the evacuation was conducted out of an abundance of caution while investigators work to determine the nature of the object.
Police said there is currently no known threat to the public, but the item had not yet been assessed as of Tuesday afternoon and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad has been notified and is responding to evaluate the suspicious item, officials said.
As a precaution, portions of 10th Street near the District Attorney’s Office have been closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The closures are expected to remain in place until authorities determine the area is safe and complete their investigation.
Law enforcement officials have not released details about the appearance or location of the item beyond stating that it was found on the exterior of the building.
This is a developing story.
UPDATE: The Medford Police Department released the following statement:
The suspicious item at the DA’s Office has been determined to not be a threat. Thank you to the Oregon State Police for their assistance on this case!
