City of Medford Celebrates Opening of Largest Municipal Pickleball Complex in Oregon

The Courts by Lithia & Driveway

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jun. 5, 2026) — A new $2 million pickleball facility opened Thursday at Howard Memorial Sports Park, marking what officials say is the largest municipal pickleball complex in Oregon amid surging demand for the fast-growing sport.

The Courts by Lithia & Driveway officially opened June 5 with a public celebration held alongside the Southern Oregon Pickleball Association’s annual spring tournament. The facility features 19 lighted courts designed for both recreational and competitive play.

City and project officials said construction began in October 2025 to help address increasing local interest in pickleball and to position Medford as a potential host for regional and national tournaments.

The courts are open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and are available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Use is free, though fees may apply during tournaments or league play.

Funding for the project was made possible through a public-private partnership. More than $900,000 was raised through fundraising led by the Southern Oregon Pickleball Association, including naming rights support from Lithia Motors, Inc. Additional capital funding came from Howard Memorial Sports Park, Inc. and the City of Medford.

Beyond pickleball, the park continues to expand its recreational offerings. Officials said four sand volleyball courts are expected to open later this month, while a neighborhood playground and picnic area are currently under development.

The site also includes a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., which was dedicated on Memorial Day.
