Medford Woman Charged With Animal Neglect Following Welfare Check

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jun. 4, 2026) — A Medford woman is facing felony animal neglect charges after authorities discovered multiple live and deceased cats at her residence during a welfare check Thursday afternoon, according to the Medford Police Department.

Police said officers responded to a home in the 1800 block of Roxy Ann Place alongside Jackson County Mental Health and the Mobile Crisis Team to conduct a welfare check on the resident.

Upon arrival, officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence and observed a deceased cat in plain view inside the home. Based on those observations and information gathered during the initial investigation, investigators obtained a search warrant for the property.

Authorities later located and contacted the resident before executing the warrant. The warrant was subsequently served with assistance from the Medford Police Livability Team, Code Enforcement officials and Jackson County Animal Control.

During the search, investigators found multiple live and deceased cats on the property.

Police identified the resident as 65-year-old Wendy Diamond. She is facing seven counts of first-degree animal neglect, a felony under Oregon law. Officials said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted regarding the case.

Jackson County Animal Control has taken custody of the surviving cats and will oversee their care and evaluation, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
