Man Arrested After Gunfire During Parking Dispute in Northeast Medford

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jul. 22, 2026) — A Medford man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say he pointed a handgun at another man and fired multiple rounds during a dispute over a parking space outside a business in northeast Medford, though no one was injured.

According to the Medford Police Department, officers responded at about 4 p.m. Tuesday to the 700 block of Stevens Street in northeast Medford after receiving a report of a possible menacing incident involving gunfire. The original caller told dispatchers the people involved had already left the area before officers arrived.

Police said the victim later returned to the scene and spoke with responding officers. Investigators determined the victim and 41-year-old David Somers had been involved in a verbal dispute over parking when the confrontation escalated.

Authorities allege Somers made a threatening statement, produced a handgun, pointed it at the victim and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the parking lot in a vehicle. No one was struck by the gunfire.

The victim attempted to follow the suspect but eventually lost sight of the vehicle, police said.

Members of the Medford Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation. A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle on Campus Drive in Medford, where Somers was taken into custody without incident.

Somers was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful pointing of a firearm, menacing and disorderly conduct.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
