Texas Man Dies in Highway 199 Crash, Ashland Driver Injured

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Dec 17, 2025) — Oregon State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash late Monday night on Highway 199 that left one passenger dead and the driver injured.

Troopers responded at 11:53 p.m. Dec. 15 to the crash near milepost 9. A preliminary investigation found a southbound Ford Econoline driven by Dakota Mcleod Palmer, 27, of Ashland, lost control, left the roadway and struck a utility pole, police said.

Palmer was transported to an area hospital with reported minor injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kyle Dewayne King, 50, of Elgin, Texas, was also taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to state police.

The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Rural Metro Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The investigation is being supported by the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, a specialized team responsible for examining fatal and critical-injury crashes on Oregon highways using advanced documentation and analysis techniques.
