MEDFORD, Ore. (Sep. 1, 2026) — An armed robbery investigation at a Walgreens in west Medford led to a vehicle pursuit Tuesday that ended with the arrest of two people on Interstate 5, authorities said.
Officers responded to the Walgreens on West Main Street at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday after employees reported an armed robbery.
According to police, a male and female suspect were attempting to leave the store with a shopping cart filled with unpaid merchandise when employees confronted them. During the confrontation, the female suspect allegedly produced a handgun, pointed it at an employee and threatened to shoot.
The suspects then left in a white midsize SUV with a black roof rack.
Responding officers searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspects or the vehicle. Investigators later reviewed store security footage, which corroborated employees’ statements and provided video and still images of the suspects and vehicle.
Police subsequently identified the suspect vehicle.
At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, an officer located the SUV near Sage Road and Highway 238. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed.
Because of the nature of the underlying armed robbery investigation, officers initiated a pursuit, authorities said.
The vehicle traveled through several areas before entering Interstate 5 northbound. Officers were assisted by the Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The pursuit continued north on I-5 as officers attempted several times to deploy spike strips. Those attempts were unsuccessful until spike strips were successfully deployed near milepost 54.
The suspect vehicle then stopped, and its occupants were taken into custody.
Authorities said traffic on Interstate 5 was significantly slowed during the pursuit but has since reopened.
Police have not released the names of the suspects. Additional information is expected as the investigation continues.
A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
