COOS COUNTY, Ore. (Nov 14, 2025) — A Roseburg man was killed Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 42 that shut down traffic for hours as investigators worked the scene, Oregon State Police said.
The crash was reported at 10:58 a.m. near milepost 24 in Coos County. According to a preliminary investigation, a westbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by John William Henderson, 69, of Roseburg, failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming Freightliner commercial truck pulling double trailers nearly head-on.
The Freightliner was operated by Paul Cle Tigrett, 54, of Sutherlin, who was reportedly uninjured.
A second commercial truck — a Peterbilt driven by Thomas Patrick Meyer, 72, of Coquille — crashed into a concrete barrier while trying to avoid the collision. Meyer was also uninjured, authorities said.
Henderson was transported to a hospital but was declared dead. His passenger, William Gene Henderson, 76, of Bandon, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Highway 42 was impacted for about four hours during the on-scene investigation.
OSP said the response included assistance from Myrtle Point Fire, Myrtle Point Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The agency noted that the crash is being investigated by its Collision Reconstruction Unit, which specializes in documenting and analyzing fatal and critical-injury crashes using advanced measurement tools and unmanned aircraft systems.
