Multiple DUII Arrests Made in Jackson County Over Weekend

Jackson County, Oregon- Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested five people on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) on Saturday night, Sept. 20, following crashes and traffic stops across the county.

The first arrest came at 5:09 p.m. when a single vehicle crashed into a ditch near Antioch Road and Dodge Road in rural Central Point. Deputies said the 34-year-old driver showed signs of impairment and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.20%, more than twice the legal limit. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of DUII and reckless driving.

At 7:43 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on the Gold Hill Bridge, where they found a 68-year-old man in the driver’s seat who admitted to being drunk. He was unable to complete sobriety tests and was taken into custody after providing a blood sample.

Around 9:10 p.m., deputies stopped a speeding car weaving through traffic on Crater Lake Avenue in Medford. The 49-year-old driver was arrested for DUII and reckless driving after performing poorly on sobriety tests. He later registered a 0.09% BAC.

Just minutes later, at 9:17 p.m., deputies responded to calls from a 22-year-old man who twice told dispatchers he was too drunk to drive, then reported he was behind the wheel. He was found in White City at a convenience store and arrested for DUII and reckless driving. Deputies said he later recorded a 0.24% BAC.

The final arrest came at 11:22 p.m. during a traffic stop on Tolo Road near Merita Terrace in rural Central Point. Deputies said a 35-year-old woman displayed signs of impairment despite registering a 0.00% BAC. A drug recognition expert from Oregon State Police evaluated her, and she was lodged in jail on suspicion of DUII involving drugs.

Deputies said alcohol was a factor in four of the arrests and drugs in one. The Sheriff’s Office said its DUII patrols, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Oregon Department of Transportation, are aimed at preventing impaired driving, reducing crashes and keeping roads safe.

Authorities urge residents to call 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
