Ashland, Oregon- A vehicle fire has closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 about two miles south of Ashland, officials said Tuesday. At the latest report, the fire has spread to nearby vegetation.
The fire was first reported at 2:41 p.m. near milepost 12, according to incident command. As of Tuesday afternoon, the blaze was estimated at a quarter-acre in the flats. An air attack is en route to assist firefighters.
Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area while crews work to contain the fire.
ODF released the following statement at 2:49p
We’re responding with our structural partners to a report of a vehicle fire on the northbound side 15 near mile marker 12, south of Ashland. Firefighters on scene estimate the fire has spread to half an acre in the surrounding vegetation.
Resources are engaging in an aggressive initial attack, and our Type 1 helicopter out of Ashland has been ordered.
Please be aware of firefighters working near the roadway, and slow down when necessary. More information will be posted when available.

ODF released their final update on the fire:
At this time, the fire has been knocked down by firefighters and stopped at an estimated one acre.
Resources remain engaged on lining and mopping up the fire. The northbound side of 15 remains closed at this time and will be reopened as soon as possible.
Please be aware of firefighters continuing to work in the area and slow down as needed.
This will be the final update on this incident unless conditions significantly change.
ODOT reports, that all lanes on northbound I-5 are open.
