Eagle Point Student Charged After Explosive Threat Prompts School Evacuation

Eagle Point, Oregon- A threat of an explosive device forced the evacuation of Eagle Point Middle School on Thursday, authorities said.

The Eagle Point Police Department’s school resource officer confirmed a student had made a threat involving a possible device, though investigators could not immediately determine whether an explosive was present. As a precaution, the school was evacuated and students were moved to Eagle Rock Elementary while additional resources were called in.

Officers from Oregon State Police, Central Point Police Department and staff from Fire District 3 responded to assist with the investigation and ensure student safety during the transfer. Parents were notified and a reunification plan was set in motion.

Investigators isolated one area of the middle school until Oregon State Police explosive technicians cleared it. No device was found.

The student who made the threat was located and is being charged with first-degree disorderly conduct. The case has been referred to the Juvenile Department for review.

“The safety of students and staff is our highest priority,” Eagle Point Police said in a statement, thanking families, staff, and partner agencies for their cooperation.
