
Ashland, Oregon- Firefighters with the Oregon Department of Forestry are responding to an active wildfire near the 1000-block of Neil Creek Road, south of Ashland and west of Interstate 5. The fire, reported Tuesday afternoon, is estimated to be about 250 acres in size (8:00a 7/9/25) but is growing due to gusty winds.
Crews on the ground are mounting an aggressive initial attack to contain the blaze, which has already produced multiple spot fires in the area. Officials say the fire’s behavior has prompted the deployment of numerous air tankers, with aircraft being diverted from other nearby incidents to assist with suppression efforts.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 2 – BE SET evacuation notice for zones JAC-542, JAC-536, JAC-543, JAC-546,JAC-558, JAC-559 urging residents in the immediate area to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
Neil Creek Road south of Ashland is closed for safety due to fire activity in the area. Fire personnel are using the road for access and the general public should avoid the area. Expect congestion in the general area.
No structures have been reported damaged as of this time.
Smoke from the fire is visible from surrounding areas, and residents are asked to avoid Neil Creek Road to allow emergency vehicles safe access.
ODF and the sheriff’s office advise the public to monitor official channels for updates on fire activity and evacuation zones.
