Teen Suspects Arrested in Deadly Shooting at Wilson Elementary School

Medford, Oregon- Two teenagers have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man in the parking lot of Wilson Elementary School, the Medford Police Department said Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of a man down at approximately 6:21 a.m. Sunday, June 8, in the 1400-block of Johnson Street. Officers arrived within minutes and found the Medford resident lying near a vehicle with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released at the request of his family.

Surveillance footage obtained from the school and nearby residences showed the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. No reports of suspicious activity or gunshots were made during that time, authorities said.

Detectives, working with the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force, school district personnel and School Resource Officers, quickly identified the suspects. Investigators allege that a 15-year-old girl lured the victim to the school parking lot, where a 17-year-old boy confronted and shot him multiple times before both fled on foot.

Early Tuesday morning, around 2:00 a.m., a Medford officer spotted the male suspect riding a bicycle on Hawthorne Street. He attempted to flee into Hawthorne Park but was taken into custody after a short chase. The female suspect was arrested shortly after at her home in the 1500-block of Johnson Street.

Due to their ages, police have not released the names of the suspects. Both have been lodged at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Facility and are charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

The case has been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

According to MPD, this incident marks the second homicide in Medford in 2025.
