APPLEGATE, Ore. (Jul. 19, 2026) — Motorists traveling through the Applegate Valley should plan for delays next week as crews continue a highway maintenance project on Oregon Highway 238.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said crews will repair cracked and rutted pavement at multiple locations along the highway, with daytime lane closures scheduled Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.
On Monday and Tuesday, July 20-21, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on a two-mile stretch of OR 238 between milepost 18 near Thompson Creek Road and milepost 20.
On Wednesday and Thursday, July 22-23, crews will shift to sections of the highway between mileposts 7 and 14, from the area near Grays Creek Road to Provolt, with work also scheduled from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
During construction, the highway will be reduced to a single lane through the work zones. Traffic will be directed by flaggers and pilot cars, and motorists should expect delays of less than 20 minutes along with reduced speeds.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, remain alert for construction workers and equipment, and consider alternate routes if they wish to avoid delays.
Officials noted the schedule is weather dependent and could change if conditions warrant.
