Medford, Oregon- Field 6 at Lithia & Driveway Fields will soon bear a new name: “Greg Jones Field,” in recognition of the former City leader’s 41 years of service and lasting contributions to the Medford community.

Jones, who retired in 2002 as the longest-serving director of Medford Parks, Recreation and Facilities, spent 29 years with the department, including 22 as its director. Under his leadership, the City added 12 parks and acquired key parkland now home to Lithia & Driveway Fields. He also played a pivotal role in securing federal Land and Water Conservation funding for the City.

“Greg Jones is a legendary figure in our department’s history, and he was instrumental in acquiring property and helping develop our outstanding park system,” said Rich Rosenthal, director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities. “We’re thrilled to honor his legacy and longtime service to the City and the community.”

Beyond his work with parks, Jones served as interim City Manager in 1998, was elected to the City Council for two terms from 2004 to 2011, and later served on the Medford Water Commission from 2018 to 2021.

The renaming of Field 6 was approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission on April 22 and received final approval from the City Council on May 7. A new sign honoring Jones is expected to be installed by July 1.
