Annual Day of Caring Activates Helping Hands in Downtown Medford

Downtown Medford

Downtown Medford, Oregon- Sidewalks in downtown Medford will see a flurry of volunteer activity Saturday morning as two local nonprofit organizations unite for a beautification effort tied to the 2025 Day of Caring.

More than 50 volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will join forces with the Downtown Medford Association and United Way of Jackson County to revitalize over 250 tree wells across the city’s historic downtown core. The effort aims to enhance the area’s walkability by removing weeds and freshening up the spaces that support trees providing seasonal blooms, summer shade, and year-round character.

“This is a true neighbors-helping-neighbors partnership,” the Downtown Medford Association said in a statement, highlighting support from partners including Grocery Outlet and Rogue Disposal & Recycling. “We appreciate the volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their support.”

The Day of Caring initiative is part of a long-standing tradition by United Way chapters across the country to promote community service and civic engagement. For the Downtown Medford Association, now in its seventh year and affiliated with the Oregon Main Street network, Saturday’s collaboration marks a significant milestone in its mission to improve the downtown experience.

The timing of the beautification project coincides with the annual Rogue Comic Con, also taking place May 17–18 at Pear Blossom Park, promising a bustling weekend for local businesses and visitors alike.

“Main Street merchants appreciate the Day of Caring volunteers and look forward to greeting them and all visitors this weekend,” the Downtown Medford Association added.
