OSP Seize 2.4 Pounds of Fentanyl in Southern Oregon Traffic Stop

Douglas County, Oregon- March 4, 2025 – An Oregon State Police (OSP) K-9 team seized 2.4 pounds of fentanyl powder and a small quantity of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Douglas County.

On February 26, 2025, an OSP trooper stopped a vehicle traveling northbound near milepost 157 for a traffic violation. According to authorities, the trooper observed signs of possible criminal activity during the stop. A subsequent consent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 0.3 grams of methamphetamine, 2.4 pounds of fentanyl powder, and a large amount of U.S. currency.

The driver, identified as 51-year-old Sebastian Melendez Ramirez of Oakland, California, was taken into custody and lodged at the Douglas County Jail. He faces charges of possession and delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl) and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

OSP K-9 teams have played a significant role in drug interdiction efforts across the state. In 2024 alone, these teams seized more than 1.4 million dosage units of fentanyl. Law enforcement officials note that a single dosage unit is equivalent to one pill or 0.1 grams of fentanyl powder.

Authorities continue to emphasize the dangers associated with fentanyl trafficking, citing its potency and high risk of overdose.
