Medford, Oregon- Recent winter weather impacted flight operations at Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR), causing significant disruptions for passengers and cargo services.
Airport Director Amber Judd confirmed with Medford Alert, that approximately 40 flights, including cargo, were canceled, delayed, or diverted over the past few days. The weather challenges included both heavy snowfall and persistent fog.
Judd reported that the airport’s runway has been fully operational since 5:30 p.m. yesterday. “It was open most of yesterday but did close for two hours for snow removal from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.,” she said.
To maintain airport operations during the storm, the entire MFR operations team worked around the clock in 12-hour shifts. Crews focused on clearing the runway and ensuring the safe handling of flights.
“This week has obviously been unusual for us here in Medford, and our airport team has done an outstanding job of clearing snow and opening the runway as soon as it was safe to do so,” Judd said. “Unfortunately, a lot of those canceled, diverted, or delayed flights were due to fog, which none of us has control over unfortunately.”
Despite the severe weather, the airport has now resumed regular operations. Airport officials continue to monitor weather conditions to maintain safe and efficient services for passengers and cargo.
