Severe Winter Weather Disrupts Rogue Valley Communities

Medford, Oregon- Snow and icy conditions continue to affect the Rogue Valley, prompting school closures, delayed openings, and road safety concerns.

Public works crews in Medford worked overnight to clear major roadways, with significant progress made in reopening key streets. However, residential streets remain unplowed and will be addressed throughout the day.

Road Hazards Persist

While most streets are passable, Hillcrest Road (westbound from McAndrews to Urano) remains hazardous due to packed snow. Authorities have advised drivers to avoid this area if possible.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when traveling. The city has issued the following reminders for safe driving:

• Stay home if you are not confident driving on slick, snowy roads.

• Reduce speed and increase following and stopping distances.

• Be cautious when navigating snow-covered hills.

Facility and School Closures

The winter weather has prompted numerous facility and school closures across the region:

Medford City Facilities: City Hall, Santo Community Center, and Rogue X will open at 10 a.m.

Medford School District: All schools closed, including after-school activities and athletics unless otherwise notified.

Other School Districts: Ashland, Central Point, and Phoenix school districts are closed.

Higher Education: Rogue Community College (RCC) campuses, Southern Oregon University, and Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls are closed.

U.S. District Court (Medford): Closed.

State Offices: Offices in Jackson and Josephine counties will open at 10 a.m. Remote and hybrid workers will maintain regular schedules. Courts and legislative offices are not covered by this announcement.

The City of Medford and other local agencies continue to monitor the situation and are working to restore full services as weather conditions improve.
