Medford Police Launches New Crime Mapping Portal for Public Use

Medford, Oregon- The Medford Police Department has introduced a new crime mapping portal through the Geoshield Communities program, allowing residents to view reported crimes in the city. This new tool provides users with customizable filters and settings, enabling the public to search for incidents by specific areas and types of crime.

Deputy Chief Trevor Arnold emphasized that the program is aimed at enhancing community awareness and fostering proactive safety measures. “Our goal is to enhance community awareness, encourage proactive safety measures, and build trust between law enforcement and the community,” Arnold said. “By making this information accessible, we’re taking an important step toward making Medford a safer place for everyone.”

While the platform provides valuable data, it does not offer real-time updates, and certain types of crimes are excluded. The addresses of reported incidents are also generalized, showing only the vicinity of the occurrence rather than exact locations. Each entry includes a case number, as well as the date and time of the report. For more specific details about a particular case, residents are encouraged to submit a Public Records Request via the Medford Police Department’s website.

The program is designed to promote transparency and provide easily accessible information to the community. However, the department noted that the platform is not meant for reporting crimes or serving as an official source for crime statistics.

For more information, or to access the crime map, residents can explore the Geoshield Communities portal.
