Medford, Oregon– Early this morning, fire crews responded to a fire at Northgate Marketplace in northwest Medford. At 5:08 a.m., Medford Fire Department, along with Jackson County Fire District 3, arrived at the scene of a fire located behind Trader Joe’s.
The fire originated in the rear loading dock area, where bundled cardboard, plastic pallets, and plastic bread crates were being stored for pickup. Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control, confining the damage to the exterior of the building.
Trader Joe’s sustained only minor damage and continues to operate as usual. An adjacent, unoccupied property also incurred slight damage, which will require repairs.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Authorities have advised businesses to store materials and pallets away from buildings, ideally in a secure, designated area to reduce fire risks.
