City of Medford Unveils “Rogue X” Sculpture at Rogue Credit Union Community Complex

Medford, Oregon– The City of Medford has officially completed its latest public art project with the unveiling of the “Rogue X” sculpture at the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex. The ceremony took place on Thursday, September 19, at the facility’s main entrance, located at 901 Rossanley Drive in west Medford.

The 15-foot-tall sculpture, designed by local artist Melissa Ghiglieri, represents the final phase of the Community Complex’s development. Crafted from welded aluminum and weighing 680 pounds, the artwork was created to reflect the diverse activities hosted at the facility. The Rogue X sculpture highlights activities such as swimming, basketball, volleyball, futsal, and pickleball, with each side representing different aspects of the facility and the surrounding community. One side portrays the energy of sports and recreation within the center, while the other showcases Medford’s natural beauty, featuring illustrations of local wildlife and outdoor activities.

Melissa Ghiglieri, a Cascade Christian High School alumna, worked closely with students from local high schools on the project. Their collaboration, led by Phil Ortega, executive director of LifeArt, a Medford-based youth art organization, underscores the role of art in fostering community involvement. Ghiglieri’s partnership with the students allowed them to contribute directly to the creation of a piece that celebrates both the recreational center and the broader Medford community.

The installation, valued at $94,000, was funded by the Medford City Council Community Initiative Fund, along with additional City resources allocated for public art. The sculpture symbolizes community pride and creative expression, enhancing the Rogue X facility’s role as a cultural and recreational hub for the city.

The 140,000-square-foot Rogue Credit Union Community Complex, home to a variety of sporting and recreational events, has solidified its place as a key gathering point for Medford residents. The addition of the “Rogue X” sculpture further cements the center’s importance to the local community, bridging the gap between art, recreation, and nature.
