Two Motorcycle’s Crash in NE Medford, Leaving One Dead

Medford, Oregon– On Friday, May 17th, 2024, at 10:51 p.m., Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash in the 2700 block of Delta Waters Road in northeast Medford. Medford Police Officers and medical personnel promptly responded to the scene.

Before first responders arrived, a bystander with medical training initiated life-saving measures on an unconscious motorcyclist involved in the crash. Upon arrival, officers found two motorcycles had been involved. One driver, identified as 39-year-old Benjamin McFarland, was unconscious and despite efforts, could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was alert and sustained minor injuries.

Members of the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team from the Medford Police Department (MPD) and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, along with a Medford Police Detective, also responded to investigate the crash. Preliminary investigations suggest that speed was a contributing factor.

The MPD expressed gratitude to the witnesses and bystanders who assisted at the scene and emphasized the serious risks associated with speeding. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

In a press release, Medford Police said the following: “Despite our best efforts, speeding remains one of the primary contributors to traffic crashes and fatalities. Let’s work together to make Medford’s streets safe for everyone.”
