Medford, Oregon- A widespread Spectrum Internet outage has swept through the region, causing significant disruptions and raising concerns about emergency communications. The outage was initially reported late Monday night, with the restoration expected by 1:30 am today. However, as of 8:00 am, services are still unavailable.
The impact of this outage extends to the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO), with an extensive disruption affecting Spectrum’s VoIP customers across the state. One of the most critical consequences is the potential inability for Spectrum VoIP customers to connect with 911 services. It is advised that affected individuals explore alternative means, such as cell phones and text-to-911, which are reported to be functioning normally despite the broader outage.
Spectrum has acknowledged the issue and assures the public that their team is actively working to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, as of now, no additional information is available regarding the cause or the estimated time for full restoration.
The following message was sent to impacted customers this morning: “Techs are working to restore services as quickly as possible but we do not have an estimated time of repair. Fiber cuts do take longer to repair and repairs may be affected by weather as well.”
The outage raises concerns not only about the inconvenience caused to regular internet users but also about the potential impact on public safety, particularly for those relying on Charter VoIP services for emergency communication. The community is advised to stay informed through official channels and to exercise caution during this period of service disruption.
As the situation continues to evolve, Medford Alert will continue to monitor and provide updates.
UPDATE: Spectrum is reporting that most of the impacted customers in our region, should have services restored at this time.
