The Medford Fire Department celebrated yesterday, as they officially put Engine 14 into service. This occasion was marked by a heartfelt retirement of the existing 12-year-old engine and a warm welcome to the new addition.
In a longstanding tradition, the department conducted a “wet down” ceremony, during which water was applied to the new engine, and community members joined hands to help dry it off.
The event concluded with the collective effort of firefighters and citizens pushing the freshly christened engine back into the station.

Fire Chief Eric Thompson expressed the significance of this ceremony, stating, “This is not just about a fire truck; it reflects a city commitment to our firefighters and citizens. Our City Council and leadership continue to demonstrate that public safety is a priority, making sure our department has the staffing to deploy modernized, state-of-the-art apparatus and equipment.”
The introduction of Engine 14 shows the City of Medford’s continued dedication to equipping the fire department with the best tools and resources, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
