The city is gearing up for a major striping installation project set to begin on the night of October 12. The project, aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow, is expected to continue for approximately two to three weeks.
Contractors will primarily operate during nighttime hours, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., between Sunday night and Friday morning. However, daytime work may occur between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The schedule is subject to change on short notice due to its heavy dependence on weather and temperature conditions.
Temporary traffic control measures may be left in place during non-working hours. This means that during the day, Main Street will have at least two travel lanes open, and at least one side of each block will be available for parking. Cross streets near intersections with Main Street may have parking restrictions to facilitate the work. “No Parking” signs will be posted in areas where restrictions are in place.
The project involves various components, including bicycle signal installation, bike roundabout/median island, striping, and parking signage and markings. The design for bicycle signal installation is already complete, with the installation to be coordinated with the striping work. The construction of the bike roundabout and median island is finished, and the striping installation for this facility is expected to be completed in conjunction with the overall striping project.
The striping contract has been awarded to Specialized Pavement Marking, LLC, and the installation is anticipated to occur throughout October. The anticipated completion date for the striping work is October 27.
Main Street currently has parking on both sides, three travel lanes and no bicycle facilities. When the project is complete, East Main Street will have parking on both sides, two travel lanes and a new two-way bike lane.
Public Works is actively involved in updating parking signage and markings, with routine adjustments to the quantity and location of marked accessible spaces as part of pavement maintenance. These updates have been made not only on Main Street but also on cross streets impacted by paving activities this year.
The city urges residents and commuters to stay informed about the project’s progress and any potential changes in the schedule. For a more detailed look at this project, click this link.
