Phoenix High Students Rally to Support Lahainaluna High School Fire Victims

In a strong display of compassion and solidarity, the leadership team at Phoenix High School is joining forces to organize a fundraiser for the students of Lahainaluna High School, who were deeply affected by a devastating wildfire that ravaged the West Maui community of Lahaina, Hawaii, claiming the lives of at least 97 individuals and destroying 2,200 buildings back in August.

The impact of the wildfire struck a chord with the students and faculty of Phoenix High School, especially for those who themselves endured the loss of their homes during the Almeda Fire on September 8, 2020.

Lisa Robin, the leadership teacher at PHS, has initiated contact with administrators at Lahainaluna High and rallied her students to coordinate and promote a fundraising event. This event is scheduled to take place on October 25, immediately following the Pirate Country Parade, an annual homecoming parade of the school.

The parade, commencing at 5:30 p.m., will wind its way through the streets of downtown Phoenix. Following this, the entire community is invited to Phoenix High School for a Hawaiian barbecue feast, prepared by the school’s culinary students, that will be available for purchase.

All funds generated from the sale of these barbecue plates, along with the proceeds from “Lahaina Love” T-shirt sales and planned “miracle minute” cash collections, will be put towards aiding Lahainaluna High School students. Please note that only cash and check donations (with “Lahaina Relief” noted in the memo line) will be accepted, not gift cards. Checks can also be sent via mail or dropped off at the PHS office located at 745 N. Rose St., Phoenix, OR, 97535. Cash donations can be directly dropped off at the high school.

The Hawaiian plates will be available for purchase outside the main gym, just before the school’s annual He-Man volleyball match. Later in the evening, Phoenix High’s Jack Woodward Stadium will come alive with the excitement of the Powderpuff football game.

Phoenix High School’s leadership team is not stopping there. They will continue their fundraising efforts during the homecoming game on October 27 at Jack Woodward Stadium. This “miracle minute” fundraiser will be another opportunity for the community to come together and provide much-needed support for Lahainaluna High School.
