Starting today, the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is making it easier than ever for customers to take their knowledge tests. You can now complete your DMV knowledge test online from the comfort of your own home or anywhere with reliable internet access, without the need to visit a physical DMV office.
Online knowledge testing has been added to the expanding menu of services available at DMV2U, the online portal for DMV services. This new option allows customers to take their tests at a time that suits them best, eliminating the need to wait in long lines or for appointment slots to open up.
DMV Administrator Amy Joyce expressed her enthusiasm for this new offering, saying, “We hope customers embrace this new way to take their knowledge test. It is an easy and convenient option that we are proud to offer to Oregonians.”
The online knowledge test closely replicates the testing experience found in a traditional DMV office, ensuring a seamless transition for users. Importantly, there is no difference in cost between taking the test online and doing it in person.
For teenagers under 18, the largest group of testing customers, an adult aged 21 or older must supervise their test when taken online. The Class C (regular driver) knowledge test and motorcycle endorsement test are both available online in English and Spanish, with plans to introduce additional languages in the future to cater to an even broader audience.
Joyce also highlighted the benefits of online testing, stating, “Testing online allows customers the chance to know that they have passed their exam before coming into the DMV office. This can save some people multiple trips into the office if they don’t pass the first time.”
After successfully passing their knowledge test online, customers will need to visit a DMV office with their identity documents and undergo a vision screening. Depending on their age, they will then be issued a permit or become eligible to schedule a drive test.
The DMV collaborated with Intellectual Technologies Inc., an expert in the online testing industry, to develop this new service. Their online testing platform, already in use in other states, incorporates proven identity verification and anti-cheating features to maintain the integrity of the knowledge test.
