PORTLAND, Ore. (Sep. 5, 2026) — A 35-year-old Portland man pleaded no contest Friday to first-degree manslaughter and guilty to second-degree abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of his romantic partner, Jeannie Enyeart, who disappeared in January 2024, prosecutors said.
Jon Pharris Ray French entered the pleas in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
Enyeart’s son reported her missing to Portland police on Jan. 29, 2024, after he became concerned because he had been unable to reach her by cellphone for an unusually long period of time.
When investigators contacted French, he told police he had seen Enyeart the previous day and said her vehicle should be in the driveway of the Portland home they shared.
Instead, investigators learned that Enyeart’s vehicle had crashed into a snowbank on a rural road near Stevenson, Washington.
An investigator contacted the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and learned the vehicle had been towed from the crash scene and that French had been driving it when it crashed.
Investigators searched the vehicle and found Enyeart’s body in the backseat beneath a moving blanket, along with several other items.
An autopsy determined that Enyeart died from blunt trauma to the neck. Her death was ruled a homicide.
French was arrested Feb. 5, 2024, in connection with Enyeart’s death.
Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson and Deputy District Attorney Ryan Solomon prosecuted the case.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office credited the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Detail, specifically detectives Brent Christensen and Scott Broughton, for their work on the investigation.
The office also recognized Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office victim advocates for providing care and support to Enyeart’s family.
French is scheduled to be sentenced at 10 a.m. Sept. 14, 2026, before Judge Jenna Plank in courtroom 13B of Multnomah County Circuit Court.
