In the battle against the Flat Fire, firefighting crews have achieved significant milestones in securing key containment lines in the southwestern region over the last several days. This progress has proven crucial in mitigating the fire’s growth. Helicopters and Unstaffed Aerial Systems have been actively utilized to bolster the containment efforts with firing depth.

A major burn-out operation along the dozer line heading east from Game Lake is nearing completion, further reinforcing the containment efforts. Structure protection resources have also been diligently collecting data to support firefighters in safeguarding properties in case the need arises.
The alternate control line on Forest Service Road (FS) 3313, 1503, and 3680 is nearing completion, with plans to finish it on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the containment line on the eastern flank, utilizing Burnt Ridge Road, has already been completed.
Today’s activities involve utilizing aerial resources to enhance fireline depth between the western and eastern sections of FSR 3680. Additionally, the northern containment line, extending from Wildhorse Lookout east to FSR 3577, is currently being mopped up and closely patrolled.
In the northeastern corner of the fire zone, areas around FS 2308 and 150 have been prepared for firing operations should the weather conditions or fire activity demand it. Achieving an effective burnout requires precise alignment of fuel conditions, fuel moisture, temperature, and relative humidity.
To support the firefighting efforts, there are currently 9 helicopters and 3 Unstaffed Aerial Systems available.
Due to fire traffic on Bear Camp Road, motorists are urged to exercise caution, reduce speed, and use headlights while driving through the area.
A community meeting is scheduled for tonight, July 31, at 6:00 p.m. in the Brookings-Harbor High School cafeteria. Residents are encouraged to attend and stay informed about the ongoing situation.
