MEDFORD, Ore. (Jul. 1, 2036) — Central Point man has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after authorities said he was found in possession of more than two pounds of methamphetamine during a drug trafficking investigation and later spent nearly three years avoiding sentencing.
The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office announced that Allen Dale Mitchell, 62, of Central Point, was sentenced Tuesday to 116 months in prison after previously entering a no contest plea to one count of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ravassipour imposed the sentence, which represents the maximum penalty allowed under Oregon’s felony sentencing guidelines for the conviction. Mitchell will also serve three years of post-prison supervision following his release.
The charge stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement (MADGE) team in August 2020. Investigators executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s Central Point residence and searched his vehicle, where they seized more than two pounds of methamphetamine, according to prosecutors.
Mitchell failed to appear for his original sentencing hearing in the fall of 2023 and remained on warrant status for nearly three years before being taken back into custody.
Prosecutors said Mitchell’s failure to appear and efforts to avoid accountability directly contributed to the court’s decision to impose the maximum sentence permitted under state sentencing guidelines.
Deputy District Attorney Alicia Wilson prosecuted the sentencing hearing on behalf of the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
In a statement, the District Attorney’s Office thanked the MADGE investigators involved in the case, praising their diligence, persistence and commitment in bringing the case to a conclusion after Mitchell’s extended absence.
