GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Mar. 26, 2026) — A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting that left one person dead and another injured Wednesday evening in Grants Pass, authorities said.
Dispatchers received multiple emergency calls reporting gunfire around 6:05 p.m. on March 25 in the 800 block of Northeast E Street. Officers from the Grants Pass Police Department, assisted by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police, responded to the scene and found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders, including Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response, provided medical aid before both victims were transported to Three Rivers Medical Center by ambulance.
An 18-year-old victim later died at the hospital, police said. A second victim, a 24-year-old man, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle shortly after the shooting.
The Grants Pass Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, working with Oregon State Police detectives and the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities identified the suspect as Kyler Talbot, 21, and launched a multi-agency search.
After several hours, Talbot was located in a hotel room in neighboring Jackson County. He was taken into custody without incident by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Grants Pass police.
Talbot was lodged in the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault.
Officials said numerous agencies assisted in the investigation and arrest, including the Oregon State Police Southern Command, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Rogue Area Drug Enforcement, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
