Central Point Man Sentenced in Federal Case Involving Stolen Gold, Cash and Guns

MEDFORD, Ore. (Feb. 20, 2026) — A Central Point man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Friday after admitting to illegally possessing firearms following a burglary that targeted an elderly victim and netted more than $250,000 in gold, cash and guns.

Jonathan Anthony Kinsella, 53, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, in August 2023 Kinsella, a convicted felon, devised a plan and recruited his wife and a friend to burglarize an elderly victim. The three split approximately $103,000 in cash, $180,000 in gold coins and five firearms.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at Kinsella’s residence, where they found a .40 S&W caliber pistol, a .30-30 Winchester caliber rifle, a Colt .38 Special revolver and a 12-gauge weapon made from a shotgun.

On Feb. 1, 2024, a federal grand jury in Medford returned a two-count indictment charging Kinsella with felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm on Oct. 20, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Harper prosecuted the case.

The prosecution was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice program that brings together federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and community partners to reduce violent crime and gun violence.

The Justice Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy in May 2021 to strengthen the initiative by fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention efforts, setting strategic enforcement priorities and measuring results.
