Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run, High-Speed Crash on Interstate 5

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Feb. 20, 2026)— A 43-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly fleeing the scene of a minor crash in Grants Pass and leading police on a high-speed drive along Interstate 5 before crashing his truck into a private yard, authorities said.

The Grants Pass Police Department said officers received a call around 10:30 a.m. reporting a hit-and-run suspect attempting to leave the scene of a crash at Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest A Street. The crash was described as minor.

The victim followed the suspect vehicle, later identified as Mario Mota, 43, onto Interstate 5. Police said Mota traveled southbound from milepost 58 at a high rate of speed before exiting at milepost 55.

Authorities said Mota lost control while attempting to turn onto Foothill Boulevard from Northeast D Street, causing his truck to roll into a private yard.

Mota was taken into custody and arrested on charges of felony eluding a police officer (FLNSA) and reckless driving, according to police.

The Grants Pass Police Department was assisted by Grants Pass Fire/Rescue, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.

Police reminded motorists to remain at the scene of a collision.

“The driving acts demonstrated in this case highlight the danger to the public by reckless drivers,” the department said in a statement.

All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
