Rogue Regional Medical Center Says NICU Remains Open, Fully Staffed Amid “Reckless” Reports

MEDFORD, Ore. (Feb. 1, 2026) — Rogue Regional Medical Center said its neonatal intensive care unit remains open and fully staffed, disputing recent media reports that claimed the unit lacked physician coverage and that neonatologists were terminated.

“There has been recent reckless reporting stating there is no coverage in our NICU and that physicians were immediately terminated. These statements are not only false, but misrepresented by the media. This misinformation is harmful to our patients and their families,” the hospital said in a statement.

Asante, the health system that operates Rogue Regional, said the NICU is a critical service line and remains committed to expanding neonatal care for families across the region. Officials said all nine neonatologists remain employed and continue providing 24/7 coverage, with current staffing expected to remain unchanged through the summer.

The health system said it is also exploring future clinical partnerships with academic institutions and regional providers to expand neonatal services after July 2026.

Hospital officials encouraged patients and families to seek information from verified sources, saying inaccurate reports can create confusion and concern about access to care.
