WASHOUGAL, Wash. (Jan. 27, 2026) — A man sought in connection with a string of stolen vehicles and a high-speed pursuit in Southern Oregon late last year has been arrested in Washington state, authorities said.
Washougal Police arrested Billy Dean Gregory, 55, on Jan. 16 and booked him into the Clark County Jail, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Gregory was arrested on charges of third-degree theft and making a false statement to a public servant. He is also being held on outstanding warrants for 13 additional charges, including five counts of theft, forgery, theft of a motor vehicle and attempting to elude police, among others.
Gregory had been sought since Dec. 29 after law enforcement agencies across Southern Oregon reported a crime spree involving multiple stolen vehicles and a pursuit that spanned Josephine and Jackson counties.
Authorities said the initial incident began just before 10:30 a.m. when a stolen vehicle was reported eluding police on Interstate 5 in Josephine County. The pursuit continued into Jackson County, where Central Point police deployed spike strips along I-5. Despite damage to the vehicle, the suspect continued at high speeds into Ashland before officers terminated the chase due to public safety concerns.
Jackson County sheriff’s deputies later located the abandoned vehicle on Lori Lane in Ashland and searched the area using K9 and drone teams but were unable to find the suspect.
Later that day, emergency dispatchers received reports of additional vehicle thefts, including one from Big Al’s restaurant in Ashland and another on North Valley View Road outside the city. Authorities also reported a theft of alcohol from a Talent liquor store. The third stolen vehicle was ultimately located in the 5800 block of Colver Road in Talent.
At the time, Gregory — a resident of O’Brien, Oregon — was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 198 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
