Air Stagnation, Freezing Fog Advisories Issued for Greater Rogue Valley

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jan. 13, 2026) — The National Weather Service has issued multiple weather advisories affecting the valleys of Jackson and Josephine counties, warning of reduced air quality and hazardous driving conditions through the middle of the week.

An Air Stagnation Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday for valley locations in both counties. Forecasters say an atmospheric inversion combined with stagnant air near the surface is expected to trap pollutants, potentially leading to decreased air quality. Conditions may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including people with respiratory illnesses.

In addition, a Freezing Fog Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until noon Thursday for the same areas. Visibility may drop to less than one-quarter mile in dense freezing fog, creating hazardous travel conditions. Slick road surfaces are also possible as fog freezes on contact.

The National Weather Service warns that the combination of poor visibility and icy conditions could make driving dangerous, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

Officials advise people with respiratory conditions to follow their physician’s guidance during periods of poor air quality. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles when traveling in foggy conditions.

The advisories were issued by the National Weather Service office in Medford.
