High Wind Warning Issued for Medford Metro, Travel Impacts Expected

MEDFORD, Ore. (Dec. 23, 2025) — The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a High Wind Warning for parts of southern Oregon, cautioning residents about potentially damaging winds that could lead to power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

The warning was issued at 11:06 a.m. Tuesday and is in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters said southeast winds of 35 to 45 mph are expected in warning areas, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph. A Wind Advisory is also in effect for nearby areas, where sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph are possible.

The High Wind Warning covers the Siskiyou and Cascade foothills, higher elevations east of Medford, and the southern Rogue Valley south of Medford, including Ashland, Phoenix, Talent and the Interstate 5 corridor.

According to the weather service, the strong winds could move loose debris, damage property and cause scattered power outages. Travel may become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Officials warned that unsecured objects could be blown around, and large inflatable holiday decorations may be displaced by gusty conditions.

The National Weather Service said additional wind hazards are possible again Wednesday night into Christmas Day, and residents are urged to secure loose items and use caution while traveling.
