Medford, Oregon- Alaska Airlines grounded all flights across the United States on Thursday evening due to a widespread technology outage that disrupted operations nationwide.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the airline requested a temporary ground stop for both Alaska Airlines and its regional subsidiary, Horizon Air.
“Alaska Airlines is experiencing an IT outage affecting operations. A temporary ground stop is in place. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the airline said in a statement released on social media.
The carrier did not immediately specify the cause of the outage or how many flights were affected. As of this evening, five remaining Alaska Airlines flights were scheduled in and out of Medford Airport. Travelers are advised to check directly with the airline for updates on potential schedule changes or disruptions.
This marks the second time this year Alaska Airlines has halted flights due to technical problems. In July, the carrier briefly grounded its fleet for about three hours following a separate IT outage.
Alaska Airlines, based in Seattle, operates hundreds of daily flights across North America, including routes through Medford, Eugene, and other regional airports.
