Fire Danger Level Lowered to ‘Low’ in Jackson and Josephine Counties

Medford, Oregon- The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) announced that as of 12:01 a.m. Saturday, the public fire danger level on ODF-protected lands in Jackson and Josephine counties has been reduced to low (green). Fire season, however, remains in effect across the region.

Under the low fire danger level, several fire prevention regulations continue to apply:

• No debris burning, including piles or material in burn barrels.

• No fireworks are allowed on or within one-eighth of a mile of ODF-protected land.

• Exploding targets, tracer ammunition, or any bullet containing a pyrotechnic charge remain prohibited.

• Smoking is restricted to enclosed vehicles on improved roads, boats on the water, or other designated areas.

• Electric fence controllers must be approved by a nationally recognized testing laboratory or certified by the Department of Consumer and Business Services, and installed in compliance with fire-safe operation standards.

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) remains at Level I (one).

ODF officials remind the public that even with lower fire danger, vegetation remains dry in some areas, and people should continue using caution to prevent wildfires.
