Medford, Oregon- A single-vehicle crash Wednesday night on the Highway 62 Expressway left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries, Oregon State Police said.
Troopers responded around 9:25 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 62 and the Rogue Valley Expressway, where an eastbound Honda CRV had struck a concrete barrier and caught fire, authorities said.
The driver, identified as Anthony Ruben Graham, 19, of Eagle Point, lost control of the vehicle after failing to negotiate a turn, according to the preliminary investigation. Both Graham and his passenger were trapped in the wreckage when first responders arrived.
The passenger, 20-year-old Michael R. Graham of Eagle Point, was pronounced dead at the scene. Anthony Graham was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for about four hours while investigators worked at the crash site. Oregon State Police said excessive speed is being considered a primary factor.
OSP was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Medford Police Department, Fire District 3 and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, which specializes in investigating fatal and critical injury crashes on state highways, is leading the investigation.
