Salem, Oregon- Oregonians across all 36 counties are heading to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in a special district election that state officials say could have a profound impact on local communities.
“This special district election is all about the issues Oregonians care about most – from who runs our schools to how we fight wildfires,” said Secretary of State Tobias Read. “When people get out and vote, their government must listen. Make your voice heard today.”
Voters have until 8 p.m. to return their ballots, either by mailing them—ensuring they are postmarked today—or by dropping them off at an official county drop site or elections office. State officials are urging voters using the U.S. Postal Service to take ballots directly to a post office and request a postmark to guarantee they are counted.
Unofficial results are expected to begin posting at 8 p.m. on the state’s elections website, results.oregonvotes.gov. Each county will update results based on individual schedules, with final certification due 27 days after Election Day.
The special district election includes local races and measures often involving school boards, fire districts, and water authorities—offices that directly affect residents’ daily lives.
Voters seeking replacement ballots or more information are encouraged to contact their county elections office or visit oregonvotes.gov.
