Gold Hill, Oregon- The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will continue its seismic bridge retrofit project on Oregon 99 (Rogue River Highway) with the temporary closure of Foots Creek Bridge. The closure is scheduled for the week of October 21, 2024, and is expected to last approximately one week. During this period, motorists are advised to use alternate routes, and travelers should remain cautious of construction workers.
The project, which began in November 2023, involves retrofitting three bridges—Birdseye Creek, Foots Creek, and Millers Gulch—to improve earthquake resilience. Construction is anticipated to continue through June 2025, with intermittent closures expected during that time.
During the closure of Foots Creek Bridge, a pedestrian transport vehicle (PTV) will be available for those needing assistance crossing. The vehicle can accommodate two ADA passengers, ten able-bodied pedestrians, and up to three bicycles.
The total estimated cost of the project is $11 million. Carter & Company Inc. is the project contractor, with DOWL serving as the consultant. The project aims to strengthen infrastructure along Oregon 99 in preparation for potential seismic activity.
